Motivation
- Tandem Mass Spectrometry is vital for proteomics studies.
- Electron capture dissociation (ECD) and electron transfer dissociation (ETD) recently emerged as very promising tools in unraveling primary and secondary structures of proteins as well as post translational modifications (PTMs).
- We are developing a novel Tandem Mass Spectrometer based on emerging technology of electrostatic traps and employing ECD/ETD processes and VUV laser photofragmentation.
- The goal is to develop a prototype for the next generation of inexpensive, high-reslution Mass Spectrometers with ideal configuration to exploit alternative non-ergodic fragmentation methods, dissociative recombination and ion reaction kinetics and dynamics.
